Lighting solutions for sub-zero temperatures in the food industry

Case Study

The challenge

Our client, Image Farm, is a food production company, providing frozen meal components and entrees to the wider food industry. A key part of food production and preservation is blast freezing – a way to increase the longevity of food by quickly freezing it in freezers reaching temperatures as low as -40°.

The space in question was small as well as below freezing. Lighting fixtures had to therefore be compact and withstand the low temperatures, but still offer maximum efficiency and longevity.

The solution

We proposed the Sammode Berring lighting as an appropriate solution to light this space. This tubular light is totally sealed and therefore works optimally in environments as cold as -40°. It’s also protected against variations in temperature (during times when blast freezing isn’t taking place) and against high-pressure cleaning which makes it suitable for a food processing environment.

Simon Taylor, Founder of Ecolighting Systems said:

“Once we had selected an appropriate product, we got to work designing the system for the space. Ensuring maximum and uniform coverage for the entire space. Sometimes small spaces can be as complex to light as a large space – but we worked with the client to find an ideal solution.

Post-design, we support clients with installation and aftercare to ensure maximum satisfaction with the end product. And that’s exactly what we achieved with Image Farm.”
