Case Study

Project Partners

  • Client: Glenmorangie Distillery

  • Lighting Specialist: Ecolighting Systems

  • Engineering Consultant: Blyth and Blyth Consulting Engineers Ltd

Project Overview

Overlooking the majestic Dornoch Firth, Glenmorangie’s Lighthouse distillery is a bold blend of tradition and innovation. At the heart of this architectural landmark is a 20-meter-high glass stillhouse—a striking beacon of modern whisky-making visible for miles.

Ecolighting Systems was proud to collaborate on this visionary project, delivering high-performance lighting solutions that align with the distillery’s commitment to quality, safety, and sustainability.

Challenge

The Lighthouse distillery is more than a functional production space; it’s a symbol of Glenmorangie’s creative spirit. Lighting solutions needed to meet several critical demands:

  • Comply with ATEX requirements in potentially explosive environments

  • Blend seamlessly into a premium architectural design

  • Provide reliable emergency lighting and signage in compliance with safety regulations

  • Support sustainability goals with energy-efficient technology

Solution

Ecolighting Systems specified Schuch’s advanced LED emergency fittings, including:

  • ND867 Explosion-Protected Emergency LED Lights
Designed for use in hazardous areas, offering safe, efficient operation where gas or dust may be present.

  • ND8611 Compact LED Emergency & Escape Sign Lights
Modern, discreet fittings providing essential emergency signage throughout the facility.

These fittings were chosen not only for their technical capabilities but also for their ability to integrate into the Lighthouse’s sophisticated and visually striking environment.

Sustainability Commitment

In line with Glenmorangie’s dedication to environmental stewardship, the Lighthouse distillery is partly powered by biogas produced onsite through an anaerobic digestion plant—demonstrating how forward-thinking design and sustainability can go hand in hand.

Results

  • Improved safety and compliance through high-spec emergency lighting

  • Future-proofed infrastructure with long-lasting, efficient LED technology

  • Enhanced aesthetic integration, aligning with the distillery’s premium image

  • Support for environmental objectives, contributing to a more sustainable operation

Conclusion

This project showcases the synergy of engineering excellence, architectural vision, and sustainable design. Ecolighting Systems is proud to have played a role in lighting a facility that reflects both the heritage and the forward-thinking ethos of Glenmorangie.
